So this is my first ever fanfic. I know it's very short and really nothing more than a drabble that my friend on Tumblr wanted me to write for her. I've never written one till now so I wasn't really sure how to go about this. I also assumed Tomoe became a doctor due to something happening to her mother but I didn't elaborate on it to keep some mystery. :P So…please go easy on me and I really appreciate any critique! I want to become a better writer but like I said, this is my first ever fanfic so…I hope you enjoy it!

"Tomoe, you cannot be serious…this is ridiculous!" Tomoe's father, Yoshikage, was seething with anger and disappointment, his face becoming a deep shade of red as he began to clench his fists at his sides.

She had never seen her father this angry before. She hadn't expected this conversation to go well, but she hadn't thought it would have gotten this bad either.

"Father…you must understand! What happened to mother cannot happen again. You always taught me to live life on the path of honor, but standing by while people suffer from illnesses I could treat them of is not the path you taught me," said Tomoe as she looked down and chewed her bottom lip, grabbing onto her kimono nervously and wringing it in her hands.

Tomoe had discussed her ideas to her father for weeks about traveling to America and becoming a doctor, but he laughed and didn't take any of it seriously. Her father just assumed it was a phase, that Tomoe would never truly leave the Tachibana clan and dishonor her family, along with their traditions. But he was very wrong. Today, he found her things packed in three small bags and Hanzou waiting loyally at her side.

"I thought this was nothing more than a silly dream. You can't leave your clan Tomoe! You must think about this!" Her father was so outraged; steam could be coming out of his ears.

For most of this discussion, Tomoe had stayed calm and composed, refusing to lose her temper. But now, she was tired of it. She was going to do what she wanted. Tomoe looked her father in the eye, and made a bold move. "No, father," she said harshly, "I'm not staying. My bags are packed and I already have the plane tickets ready. I'll come and visit. Accept what I want to do, and accept that I want to help people."

Her father had a look of surprise at her sudden harshness. However, Yoshikage was having none of it. He refused to lose his cultured and respectful daughter and give her up to America, to an unknown part of the world he wasn't familiar with. He decided, he had already lost a wife. He couldn't lose his daughter too.

He sighed. "Tomoe, you belong here in Japan. You know this is the only path for you! I can't lose both you and your mother!"

The mention of her mother made Tomoe's heart clench in pain. But then she remembered her mother's death inspired her to do this in the first place. She walked over to her bags, picking them up and heading to the door. "I'm sorry, father. But I must do this. You're right. I need to follow the path of honor. But the path of honor is my own to decide."

She stepped out the door quickly before her father could retaliate. Tomoe was heading to America. There was no turning back now.

"Goodbye, father."
