It has been a year since Frisk had destroyed the barrier and freed the monsters of the Underground. Life was peaceful with monsters and humans living in tandom; however, Frisk was about to meet a new friend... but unfortunately, not for long.
It was the first day of a new school year. Everyone would hang out in the halls at their lockers in the morning on their cell phones, waiting for the bell to ring and go to class. Dr. Alphys had recently gotten a job at the school as a robotics teacher, showing students how to create their own artificially intelligent buddies. Toriel taught reading class and Papyrus taught cooking class. I was really excited to meet some new kids and get to know more about them. I was on my way to robotics. I walked in and had a seat at one of the tables. There were two chairs at each table, and each of us would sit with one other person. I sat down at my table and I saw the kid next to me. He had blond hair and wore a dark blue shirt. I asked him, "Hi! I'm Frisk, what's your name?" He replied, " Um... M-Michael. Nice to meet you." The stuttering in his voice made me assume he was just nervous. Heck, I was just as nervous my first day. As always, the first day was mostly just explaining rules, signing safety contracts, yadda yadda. The next day, we were taking notes in robotics, and I asked, "Hey, do you have a thing for robots and stuff like that? You look like a really smart kid." He replied, "Yah, kinda. I think robots are cool. I just don't think I'd be really good at making one." I replied, "Don't sweat it. I bet you'll be great at it!" "Heh, thanks" he replied with. He was a really nice kid, though, it was rare when I got to talk to him mostly because robotics was the only class we were both in, and I didn't want to talk all the time and disrupt class. About a month later, we were working on the motherboards for our robots. We each were assigned partners to work on our projects. I was happy to be able to work with Michael. We were working on the components for the motherboard and I asked Michael to grab a tool from the supplies table. He was walking over to the table when he tripped over a wire and fell to the ground. His shirt retracted, revealing his back, which was covered in scars. The whole class went silent. I went to go help him up when he pushed me away, curled up and bursted into tears. "What?! You don't know what it's like to get beaten to near death every day?!" He yelled. Dr. Alphys helped him up and comforted him. "H-hey, i-it's alright. Let's get you to the nurse." I felt so bad for Michael. Never in my life had I expected to meet someone who was being abused by their own parents. I hoped he would someday find some other parents who would give him love and a better life.
Today had to be the worst day of my life. I was in robotics, but this time, Michael wasn't in class. I was a little worried, but I tried to take my mind of it by working on our project. Suddenly, Dr. Alphys tapped me on the shoulder and asked, "Hey Frisk, c-can I speak with you out in the hall for a little bit?" "Sure..." I replied. We both walked out into the hall and she shut the door. She looked like she was nervous to talk to me. "So... what did you need?" She turned to me and explained everything. "Frisk, I-I know that you and Michael a-are good friends, but..." A tear started to run from her eye. "He... he's no longer with us." It was in that moment I realized what had happened. Michael had died. I couldn't hold in the emotions any longer. I started sobbing heavily. Dr. Alphys wrapped me in a hug. "This is all my fault. I should've done something. If I had, none of this would've happened!" I sobbed. "N-no. It's not your fault... we would've all wanted to help him, but we couldn't prevent something we didn't expect..." Dr. Alphys assured me.
It's been weeks since the news was broken to me. I accepted the fact that he was gone, but he never deserved to have his life end in such a horrible, horrible environment. His parents have been charged with murder and sentenced to 15 years in prison. From that day forward, if I met someone who was going through an awful time in their life, I always remind them...
"Stay Determined."
