An injection of a dead or weakened virus used to stimulate immunity.

Kira was a disease.

A virus.

An infection creeping over the world

Spreading death and consuming everything in its path.

A virus is not human. It does not have emotions. It has only one goal.

Destroy.

It targets specific cells, and if successful, the body deteriorates until it withers away.

But Kira doesn't understand this. That the world will not become pure, but will dwindle away until it is nothing.

So how did I fool myself into believing I could be spared?

I exposed myself to him. Perhaps I believed on some rudimentary level this would protect me. That the contact with this malignant being would somehow extend to protection.

And then the Kira faded from his eyes. He was lost and confused and innocent. Was it that that compelled me to chain us together?

Did I truly believe I could be saved?

I was a fool.

My death was merely slowed.

But the virus still creeped. Replicating in my very cells. Waiting. A lysogenic infection. It waited for an event to trigger it.

Kira's revival.

He screamed.

That scream sealed my fate. The virus broke forth. It swarmed. I was consumed.

I was proved mortal.

The virus lives on.
