Harrison was leaning against the doorframe, his arms crossed over his chest. He loved stolen moments like this, how they were both unaware that he was even standing there.
It warmed his heart. This is what he had stayed for. Things were just like they were meant to be.
His oldest daughter was safely asleep in his bedroom; the youngest was peering at him over her mother's shoulder, a curious look splayed all over her small but chubby face.
"Dada…"
He chuckled and Caitlin turned around to face him, she looked tired, but beautiful as ever.
"How long have you been standing there?"
"Give or take a few minutes?"
"Did she wake you?"
He shook his head and stepped closer, his daughter outstretched her arms at him and he took her from her mother's embrace.
"Hello there princess Emma…" Harrison whispered, blissfully unaware of the look of pure adoration Caitlin was giving him.
"I'm only her favourite when you're not around." Caitlin said, a mock pout on her face.
"Just you wait till she's old enough to date, see how the tables will turn."
"That's a long time from now." she sighed, resting her head on his shoulder, he drew her in closer by putting his hand on her waist.
"You know she loves us equally. And by the way, you're already my favourite and I don't share."
Suddenly Emma started whimpering, Harrison tried shushing her but it turned into screaming her little lungs out in no time.
"What's wrong?"
Jesse had turned up in the doorway, apparently the wailing of her little sister had startled her from her sleep.
"I think Emma's got a new favourite parent." Harrison said, while handing Emma back to Caitlin.
He then motioned for Jesse to come inside. She sleepily stumbled in his general direction and he opened his arms to hug her, she inclined and let her head fall against her father's chest while mumbling about still being tired. Harrison chuckled and kissed the top of her head, eventually Jesse let go of him and went to sit down in the rocking chair in the corner of the nursery. Already nodding off again.
"Let's see, who wants pancakes for breakfast?"
At that Jesse's head snapped up, Caitlin nodded with a smile on her face and even Emma seemed to have forgotten about her earlier distress and had calmed down again.
"I'll see what I can whip up, mkay?"
Harrison walked downstairs with the notion that he had finally found what he had been looking for all his life. He had friends, a job he positively adored and he had even managed to end up with a brand new family. One in which Jesse felt equally happy as he did. Harrison Wells was a blessed man and he damn well knew it.
