Once again, it was stormy and dark outside. It had been like that for most of the summer. Summer! The time of year where it was supposed to be happy and bright, not dark and gloomy. Especially around here. The Aereon forest was always bright and welcoming during the summer. We would always have many visitors come to see the beautiful forest. The little town deep within the forest made most of it's money from the tourists. But there had been almost none and it was about halfway into the season.

Ruffles, my pet Growlithe didn't like the rain much at all. He often got frightened by the thunder and lighting, but didn't like to show it. After all he was here to protect me and care for me, like he always has.

I reached for my cup of hot cocoa that was sitting on my bedside table. I had a comic book in my hand, and Ruffles was laying at my feet. You could hear the raindrops hitting the window every now and then. Every hour or so, the sounds got really violent, and Ruffles curled up closer to me when that happened. But mostly I kept to my comic. My mother was asleep and my father was out gathering food for supper. Due to the bad weather, he hadn't been able to come back with much for the past few days.

I began to fall asleep, comic in hand, and Ruffles at my feet. At one point my comic book hit the floor, and made Ruffles jump up a bit. I woke up a couple of hours later, and looked up at the clock. My comic book was still on the floor, but Ruffles was no longer at my feet.

"Ruffles! Come on boy! Where did you run off to?" I yelled.

"I think I heard him go out to the backyard sweetie." My mom sleepily yelled from her bedroom.

I began to walk out to the backyard to check. Spotted him right away. Looked like he was laying by one of the bushes by the old oak tree we had out back.

"Hey boy! Get out of there! There's all kinds of bugs and junk crawling in that thing!" I yelled.

He didn't move.

I moved in to pet him.

Nothing.

He laid there.

Motionless.

Yet I could feel his pulse.

"MOM!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.

Next thing I knew, we were at the nearest Poke' center. The closest one was in Oldbridge city. Our town was too small to accommodate one. We walked up to the nurses desk.

"Welcome to the Poke' center. How may we..."

"FIX HIM! HE'S NOT MOVING!" I yelled.

"MAX STOP IT THIS INSTANT!" My mother roared.

"My son's pet Growlithe passed out in our yard. He was fine, just laying in bed with Max. Next thing he knows, he finds Ruffles in the backyard, passed out in a bush." My mother explained to the bright eyed nurse.

"Oh my! Well I can see why Max here is so upset. We'll get a doctor out here right now to see him" The nurse replied.
