you're the light in my heart that never goes out.

Summary: because there's a thousand reasons why they shouldn't be together and a million more why they should. May x Jack. 5 shot. Drabble-ish.

She's such a perfect array of chaos and he's a blanket of well everything that she could ever want in a guy and she's always been searching for that corresponding puzzle piece to make her a little less broken and a little more whole.

But then he has to go and be ten years older and a million shades of wrong for her, so that suddenly the puzzle pieces don't fit together quite so well. But - ohmygod - she can't help but fall a little too hard for him anyway.

She's got pretty, dainty little feet that are smeared with red nail polish and she's walking (tripping, stumbling) on egg shells like she's on broken stilts.

(she's almost perfected the art of not-falling-head-first into the mess that is her life.)

The mess has a name (Jack), a (way to handsome) face and also happens to be announcing to the word how he's getting married and it hurts sofreakingmuch because it's not to her (even though they both pretended it would be).

He's being swept in an earthquake of congratulations and it was a long time comings but she's got her own personal after shock to deal with. He. Didn't. Choose. Her.

And because their life is full of disasters she hurricanes out the door, all tears like rain and a heart that's break-break-breaking.

In two years Jack will look back on this and wonder why he didn't chase after the girl. He'll be alone - Karen would have divorced him for some thief Skye who stole her heart with moonlight walks and fine wines. The thought of visiting the ebony haired girl will flash through his mind. The urge to just smash his lips into hers will crash down on him like a tsunami.

But he won't move.
