One Piece belongs to Eiichiro Oda
The grass whispered as he made his way through the long stretch of land. The two gravestones could be seen from afar, Whitebeard's flag rustling in the wind.
He made a little bow to the towering, long overcoat that hung below the flag. It had huge holes in some places and brown patches in others, he duly noted. But his main purpose of visiting the island was not entirely for honoring the death of the great legend, Whitebeard. It was for someone else whom the world could not and did not readily accept. Someone else larger than life itself.
Ace's signature hat is on the grave. When the first wanted poster was published, he remembers thinking that he'd never seen that orange hat before. He remembers snickering because of the way Ace looked wearing that hat. Way too gaudy.
He wishes he didn't have the regret of not being able to ever tell him that.
So instead of letting his mind wander to bitter places, he throws the bouquet he's carrying onto the ground, in front of the two graves. He sets his haversack on the floor and retrieves the newspaper article, hammers it to the grave underneath the words "PORTGAS D. ACE" and sits back for a second or two to admire his impromptu craftwork. There's an abandoned crate sitting nearby, and he supposes that it'll do so he fishes out the expensive bottle of sake he bought from the previous port, followed by three sake cups, and sits them down on the crate.
A smile makes its way slowly up his lips in nostalgia, settling in his eyes as he pours the rich liquid into the cups, careful not to spill a drop. He presses his hat to his chest in the same way the boy in the newspaper article had done.
"No matter how many years may pass…" The first cup is filled.
"No matter the distance…" The second and the third.
"In my heart, the three of us…" A glance to the crinkled newspaper, and another to the gaudy hat.
"… will always be brothers." He gulps his share down to the very last drop.
Just in case anybody is confused, inspiration for this story came from the cover page of Chapter 688. It's a little theory.
