Smile for me devil

You dimmed the lights

The sun dipped below the skyline bringing an end to yet another day. I stared sadly at my mothers sleeping face. Visiting hours were almost over and I'd have to leave her soon. I hated this room. It white walls and beeping machines only served to remind me that I could loose her at any moment.

The sudden flickering of the lights startled me out of my daze. They dimmed drastically engulfing the room in an eerie, orange, glow.

You held me tight

I almost screamed when I felt a pair of arms wrap themselves around me. They were strong. I tried to move but they held me in place. I was trapped.

I opened my mouth to scream for help but before I could make a sound he spoke.

Kissed my cheek

"Hello Kagome" he whispered in my ear. His deep, baritone, voice sent shivers down my spine. "I'm here to make you an offer"

"A-An offer?" I cursed myself mentally for stuttering. I heard him chuckle. "D-Don't laugh at me" I told him. What kind of cruel man would scare a thirteen year old girl half to death then laugh at her. I felt my anger rise but all traces of it left my body when I felt his warm lips pressed against my cheek.

My knees went weak

I knew that if I had been standing my knees would have given out. I also knew that my face was red enough to put a cherry to shame. I'm such a loser.

Again he spoke and again I felt the shiver run down my spine. The somber tone of his voice brought me back to reality. "Your mother is dying Kagome" I already knew that but hearing him say it just made it all the more real.

"I know" I told him weakly.

I only wish

"I could help her" I turned my head to look at him. I gasped. He was gorgeous. But what struck me the most were his beautiful hair and amazing eyes. Silver and gold. I was absolutely mesmerized. The movement on top of his head brought my attention to something I had never seen on a person before. Dog ears.

My eyes widened and my jaw dropped. "Wow" I breathed.

"Close your mouth" he said looking past my shoulder and out the window.

I finally managed to find my voice. "How can you help her?" I asked.

"I can make her healthy again" he answered. He spoke again before I could ask how. "But you have to do something for me"

"What? I'll do anything!" I shouted without hesitation. "What do I have to do?" I asked again.

That maybe if

I saw the corner of his lips twitch "you have to marry me"

To say that I was shocked would have been an understatement. I could tell that he was serious just by the look on his face.

"I'm too young to get married" he chuckled again. For the first time he looked me straight in the eye. My heart skipped a beat.

"I know that" he began. "I don't mean right now Kagome. In five years, when you turn eighteen, you will be my bride"

We sat silently on the hospital couch for a while. I looked at my mothers pale face. "Fine" I sighed. "I will be your bride"

You stayed for a while

"Hmm…okay…tomorrow when you return to your mother she will be back to her full health"

"You're leaving now aren't you?" I questioned. He nodded.

"I'll see you in five years Kagome"his arms loosened around me.

"Wait!" I shouted "What's your name?"

"Inuyasha" he whispered. I didn't turn around to look at him. His arms disappeared behind me and the lights flickered back to normal.

I whispered his name into the air "Inuyasha"

I'd get to see you smile
