Run, you idiot! Protect her! Faster! FASTER !
He knew pain should've been there, but all he felt was relief. Assured. She didn't get hurt.
A warm, liquid was gushing from his chest. A sickening smell of iron and salt filled the air, as well as sobs of despair.
Natsu fell to his knees, the wave of pain finally washing over him. He grinded his teeth together, clutching the fresh bullet wound in his chest. Tears threatened to appear, but he held them back. No. He wasn't going to cry in front of her. He knew he had to stay strong for her until the very end.
"Shit! Run!" The gunman said, fleeing with his partner from the Dragneel's home.
"Natsu! Natsu! Hang in there! Oh, god! Shit, shit, shit! 911, calling 911!" His wife frantically said, panic etched into her words. Her hands were all over the place. It was like she wanted to block the wound and call the police at the same time. Natsu laughed weakly. Silly weirdo.
"My husband's been shot!" Lucy screamed into the phone, sobbing. Her eyes hadn't left his.
Man...Natsu had forgotten how beautiful her eyes were. Warm, chocolate brown, with a hint of golden. And her hair: The finest golden thread, with a shine that was brighter than the sun. He skin was perfect: Porcelain, without a single flaw. Her figure was perfect, too, a body every model would die for.
Words didn't seem to reach him now. He could see his beautiful, beautiful wife, trying desperately to save him.
But, alas, Natsu knew his time was up.
He was calm, but he also felt like crying. Most of all: He wanted to comfort Lucy, to hold her in his arms, to protect her from all the dangers in the world.
He was also proud of himself: He had protected her. She was safe. She was alright, and unharmed. That was all the mattered to him.
His hearing had come back, and at the same time, he felt it was more difficult to breathe, his heart slowing down.
"Natsu! Stay with me! The ambulance is almost here! Hey! I forbid you to die on me! I swear, if you die, I'm going to hunt you down in heaven and kill you again, idiot!" Lucy demanded, tears rushing down his face.
His smiled, which seemed to take up all of his energy. He felt Lucy's warm tears, like rain on his face. She was trying to look brave and assuring, but as usual, she hid nothing from him.
She was scared, worried, and downright horrified. Her eyes were practically yelling the truth.
He had what...a minute left?
He lifted his hand to Lucy's smooth, wet face. She had brought her hand up to his, clasping it against her cheek.
"Hey...don't cry." He said, weekly. Man...since when was it so hard to breathe?
"Shh…" She whispered. It sounded like she was choking.
"Don't talk."
He stifled a laugh, his heart beat slowing down.
Finally, he had no strength left. His hand dropped, his senses becoming dull, and his wife going into full panic mode. She didn't try to hide her feelings at all.
"Natsu! Natsu! I love you, so so much! So don't die!"
And those were the last words he would ever hear in his short twenty four years of being alive.
