The wall kept crashing down, as hard as Theseus' boulder was when he threw it. The circumstances were, though, very different. That was for glory. This wasn't.
Dead.
The memory kept on playing in his mind, like it would be stuck on repeat for the rest of his life. Trapped beneath rubble. Lifeless eyes.
Dead.
That was a funny word. He never thought he would have to apply it to him. They should have died together. Laughing. Smiling. Together.
Dead.
It was never supposed to end like this. He was going to grow old, have children, marry. He was going to admit his love to the one. He had a long life ahead of him. Happiness. Joy.
Dead.
The word was abrupt. Just like the feeling. One moment there, the next they're gone. Never expecting it. You wish it never happened. Hoped.
Dead.
The war was never supposed to be this bad. Nobody he knew was supposed to die. Especially not him! Maybe, once or twice, he imagined Percy... However, that was before he redeemed himself. Worthy. Laughter.
Dead.
The present caught up to him, and he noticed himself sobbing on his mother's shoulder. "He's gone... And I never got to... We never got to..."
Dead.
Dead inside. Dead dreams.
Dead.
