True love is when you have to watch a friend leave, with the knowledge that you might never see her again. But you know she'll be in your mind and heart forever..." - Unknown

The Doctor watched as Donna turned towards him, there was no recognition behind those blue eyes that he was so use to seeing kindness and friendliness.
He didn't want to leave her, but he knew that there was no point in staying.
The Doctor wished that their goodbye had not been so brief, but he knew that she would live a wonderful life.
He understand from the beginning that even though she had promised forever, there was no way that he could keep her.
Telling her that he was going, she gave him a quick brush off, and he turned to leave.
Stealing one last glance at her, the Doctor felt his hearts constrict; the flash of her red hair covering her face. Her voice ringing out, talking about normal human things, not about biological metacrisis or saving the Earth.
She deserved more than that.
The Doctor would miss her, he was sure of that. She was his best friend and he would never forget her.
As he met Wilf at the door, the Doctor was saddened by the fact that he would never set foot inside this house again.
It was the same with Rose and Martha.
It was hard for the Doctor, he would step into these people's and families' lives and quickly he disappear; his memory lingering but, he himself, gone in presence.
Except for Donna, he would not be there in person, nor in remembrance. He was leaving her alone in the darkness.
The Doctor bid goodbye to Donna's grandfather, and he briefly looked back at the home where Donna would most probably spend the rest of her life. Knowing that she would revert back to her old life, never trying anything new. Never wondering what the world had in store for her.
Donna Noble deserved so much more than what the Doctor gave her, and with heavy hearts, the Doctor set the TARDIS back into the Vortex.
Leaving the one person he promised never to leave behind.
