Disclaimer: Jenny Carroll owns the mediator idea – I only own the Seer and this story; the origin of the mediator. If I owned The Mediator and all its characters, I doubt I would writing fan fiction. . .
Comments: This is just a re-vamped Origin of the Mediator, with a new name and the two chapters combined into one – I thought the two chapters was such a waste, considering their length.
Author's Note: This takes place in 7920 B. C. E. That's all. . .
Essence
The Seer frowned as the spirit left her empire. When she had created the human world, she hadn't thought of what would happen if humans that died still had earth-deeds to do. She mentally sighed – each day she had more spirits than the day before coming to her to help them – and with no one to help her with this she had no time for the leisurely activities that she had enjoyed before the creation of the earth. Deciding she needed help with the Herculean task she exited her throne room and headed towards her study. Although humans had just discovered the gift of writing, the Seer had been using it since the beginning of time and in many different languages. She pulled the Great Book down from the shelf it reclined on and sat down. She had received the Great Book from the Great Being – the heavenly body which humans would one day call "the sun".
The Seer sifted through the pages, looking for a clue to who she could call for help. Although the Seer had read the book many times before, the book always changed – so she always had new knowledge to gather and new lessons to learn. The Seer almost smiled – the Seer always kept her emotions and feelings inside her; it was one of the many differences between her and the human beings that occupied her earth – as she saw a page that held her required knowledge. It was called "the mediator" – a being that would not only guide earth-bound spirits to the afterlife, but also be her companion. The mediator would be immortal and immune to physical pain. The mediator would make the Seer's life eternal bliss – literally.
The Seer took out the Mirror of Sight and looked into it. In her minds eye she drew a young man with ever-changing hair and opaque eyes. He was tall and had a good build. When the image was complete, she reached into the Mirror of Sight and pulled what she found there. She accidentally pulled the Essence out of the young man and it went flying out of the Mirror. The Seer gasped as the Essence fled the study and the Seer's empire – towards the human world.
The Essence hurdled into the human world – only to be shattered into a million pieces by the un-magical atmosphere. The millions of pieces separated and headed into many different directions. They – the Essences – burned into the water, earth, air, and fire of the human world.
Ever since that day, four times a year – once for each of the seasons – a part of the Essence would separate from its bearer – the water, earth, air, or fire – and seep into the body of a new-born baby. The bearers of the Essence kept the name of the mediator and helped the spirits of their – the human – world; but because of the separation the parts of the Essence grew weak, and the mediators lost some of their powers. They were no longer immortal, but semi-immortal; stronger than most humans, but not immune to death, nor physical pain.
The End
