Well, O'Neill, was it worth risking your career for? As I watch Merrin leave, I really wonder if it was worth it.

Oh yeah. . .

It was worth it. . .

I tried to forget what they had planned for that little girl, and I tried to forget how I feel. How could anyone willingly do this to their children? How? I don't understand it and what's more I'd fought anyone who'd had wanted to do this to Charlie!

When General Hammond told us that Kalan wanted to see us again on Orban, I nearly got physically sick to my stomach and I felt the same fear I had felt on the day Charlie died but this time it was Merrin I feared for. What if Kalan was calling us back to tell us Merrin had died for some reason?

As we suited up for the trip to Orban, I tried not to show my anxiety over what news would greet us once we stepped through the Stargate. When I stepped into the event horizon, I swear it seemed to take even longer to get through the wormhole.

Finally we stepped through and I saw Kalan. He assured us that nothing was wrong and we were greeted by the musical sound of children's laughter as they did what children SHOULD do: they played! Kalan led us around and I looked for Merrin, hoping to see her again.

I found her drawing on a wall, using the box of crayons I'd given her only hours before. She didn't speak to me when I sat beside her but I knew it was okay. We'd become friends again and I was willing to spend as much time as it took with her. I wanted to be her friend again. . .

Was it worth it?

Oh, yeah, I decided when I saw the delight in her eyes as we drew together. . .
