She was 2 months, almost three. And she was starting to show so she decided that today was the day that she was going to invite her father, mother-in-law, and step daughter out to dinner and tell them. Richard already knew so he was very gear to telleveryone

Only four months ago they had gotten out of the hospital and returned to their lives after getting shot in the chest twice now she knew there would be little change that her body could handle a baby. But now there is something that is in her somethingthat
had not been there since before she had come out of her bed room and saw Rick falling on the floor and Caleb standing in her kitchen. Hope.
It was hard on him too. Rick had gotten shot twice in the chest. If the neighbors wouldn't have called the police, they would have died. They held hands and both went unconscious until Kevin and Javier burst through the door with paramedics and gurniesbehind
then running to find them and save them. They would have died on the floor of the kitchen where they share some of their favorite memories. Like when they first discussed having kids, or planned their wedding that Rick never saw, or congratulatingAlexis
for getting her masters in teaching, getting accepted into the police academy. The same school that her stepmother went to and was top of her class. No doubt that Alexis would be too. Their life was now amazing and fun and fullof hope fortheirfuture.
When less then a year ago the just had hope they would make it to tomorrow. Now they are free to live their lives and raise their child and love it and hope for endless things.
At dinner, they sat at a six top, which will one day be full once their child came. Kate sat next to Rick who sat across from Alexis who sat next to Martha who sat next to Jim.
"So how is the firm treating you, Jim?" Martha asked looking at the menu trying to start a conversation. "Fine we just finished a class action suit, but other than that late hours and busy schedules." He said with a grin. The small talk between the smallfamily
went on for about an hour.
Once they were about to order dessert Kate asked for everyone's attention as she got out the small gift bags for each of the people sitting across from her. They looked puzzled and frightened since it was none of their birthdays of special holidays oranything
like that.
Rick secretly got his phone out and began recording.
"You can open them..." Kate told them turning to look at her husband holding his hand. Alexis opened hers with the same energy she used to have on Christmas morning opening presents. She didn't know what to say so she asked a question "Number one Sister?"

Kate and Rick smiled and realized that they were still not getting it so they told Martha and Jim to hurry up and open theirs. "I don't understand? Darling what is going on?" Martha asked Rick after reading her shirt, she was already a grandmother. Jimfinally
figured it out and covered his mouth with his hands and looked at his daughter with tears starting to roll down his face. Martha and Alexis figured it out then and started shouting and yelling as Jim stood up and hugged his daughter tighterthan
ever before.
