How It Was (168 words)
And there was Jack, kicking up a squall.
Inconspicuous, he certainly wasn't, and Anamaria took a moment to wonder whether he had ever been so. Whether he had been born with beads and baubles and braids, all done up like some glittering whore. And she wouldn't say she'd never say that to his face because she had, once upon a time, and he had grinned and glittered even more (quite deliberately, just to infuriate her) and proceeded to dash her appraisal to the ground.
She blinked and the squall broke, Jack's eyes widening as he spotted her, grin shattering the sunlight into pieces. The darkness scattered, although it never left; not really. There it was in the slant of his eyes; there it was etched into his skin; there it was when he looked at her just so, making her breath hitch and her eyes narrow and her lips twist into a scowl.
And that was how it was, her and Jack, and how it would always be.
