Prologue

It's not that Griselda and I are grotesquely deformed or disfigured. We aren't even ugly. The blame is entirely our stepsister Cindy's. She has classic good looks- silky blonde hair, a perfect complexion, and deep blue eyes. And she's got that perfect hourglass shape. She makes a dirty apron look good. Compared to her, Grissy and I are plain- or ugly.

Grissy has straight brown hair with nary a wave in it. She's got green cat eyes and a few freckles. I've always admired her freckles myself. Her eyes are very green though and they're a bit slanted too, which doesn't help. Poor Grissy doesn't have a very curvy figure either. She's thin as a rail. I think she's learned to accept it, but it's hard when the boys are always mooning over Cindy.

As for me, I look somewhat like Grissy. I've got brown hair too, but mine's curly. We have the same eyes, but mine are brown. Mother says that they are the same shade of chocolate brown as Father's. I've always been proud of that fact. Father died shortly after Grissy was born, so I don't remember him at all. And I've got a lot more curves too. I'm a bit on the plump side, but I dont' mind most of the time. Everything about me is a little big- except for my feet. They are as tiny and slender as Cindy's.

Mother looks a lot like Grissy, except that she has the hourglass shape men adore so much and she doesn't have freckles. Oh, and her eyes aren't slanted at all. I guess that is why Lord Lublick married her. Yeah, Lublick. That's Cindy's last name, but you'll never catch her saying that. She's so embarrassed of it that she turns red as a tomato whenever someone says "Lublick". Of course, she makes even a blush look beautiful, so it doesn't really matter.

Anyway, Lord Lublick married Mother at a beautiful church and everyone attended- even the king and queen. They left their two boys at home though. Apparently the little princes were regular devils and ruined state dinners and other events like it was their job. I certainly wouldn't want to have them at my wedding. Well, it was at the wedding that Grissy and I first met Cindy.
