Chapter 1: Alone, not

Addison opened her eyes abruptly. She swore she had heard Lucas cry, but then realized it was her own child. She stirred on the hospital chair and stood up. Glanced towards the incubator were Owen rested

She touched his tummy softly, Owen opened his eyes. He had two remain at the hospital for 6 more weeks. Addison had been granted permission to stay with him that long, but she had insisted on going back to work just a week after his birth, so she could focus on other things. Lucas was now almost two years old. Addison would see him at Violet's office or playing with Pete in the kitchen. They were now married and Lucas had the family she had longed for. But she didn't resent Pete or Violet, they had been through enough, but then again so had she…

"Addison?" Cooper and Pete stood there by the doorway watching her

"He's awake" she told them. Pete walked towards her and held her close. Violet suddenly appeared making Addison release Pete almost instantly. She was holding Lucas

"How is he?" her concern was genuine. Pete took Lucas from her and the little boy pointed towards the sleeping baby. Addison watched Lucas sweetly

"I think I'm going to stay tonight" Pete told Violet. She took Lucas from him and nodded

"No. you should go home" Addison frowned at Lucas "Be with your family"

"He's his family too" Violet said quietly. Addison knew it wasn't easy for her to admit that her husband had another baby, with another woman

"I'll stay" Cooper said firmly. Addison smiled tiredly

"What about Charlotte?"

"Has to work late. So I told her I was going to stay with you" Cooper said warmly "you should go home Pete"

"Okay. But I'm staying tomorrow" Pete hugged Addison and grabbed Owens's little finger. He squeezed it slightly

As Addison watched him walk away with Violet and Lucas, She could feel tears stream down her face, but quickly wiped them out

As weeks passed Owen's condition improved. And Addison felt optimistic about his diagnostic. Finally on August 14th her baby boy was released from the hospital. She first took him to the practice where Pete welcomed her with a box of Lucas's old clothes and toys.

"He might need this" Violet said sweetly

"Thank you. To all of you who have been so amazing" she was now sobbing. Sam quickly hugged her

"You finally have what you wanted the most" he said raising her chin. Addison kissed Sam's cheek awkwardly

"I will help you, get the things on the car" Pete told her later. She walked with her friends in tow. Amelia had offered to stay with her until she needed to and Sam said they could think about them later, Owen was now the priority

More weeks passed. Now Owen was 4 months old. But Addison better than anyone knew something was wrong. He didn't develop as normally as Lucas had and had a hard time feeding him, he wouldn't gain any weight

"I'm a baby doctor Cooper" she said one day Cooper examined Owen

"You have to give him time" Cooper said coolly "he spent two months of his life in an incubator"

"What if he has a paralysis?" Cooper raised his face "what?"

"Well you tell me". She felt like almost slapping him. Of course she thought there was something wrong with Owen

She had analyzed it over and over in her head. Finally when Owen was 6 months old. Addison conducted a test. Her doubts had been right. Owen had had oxygen failure during the time shortly after he was born causing severe damage in his mobility and balance. He was physically disabled.
