Special Eyes

You have to have special eyes
To see me
For I am hidden from sight
Behind a protective mask
And wall that I built long ago

To keep people from
Getting too close
And hurting me
Because pain was all I've ever known
So I stay hidden

Far away from human contact
Far from the pain and hatred
But also far from love and kindness
My mask and wall
Keep them out as well

But if you have special eyes
You can see behind my mask
And through my protective wall
To find the me
That's been hiding inside all along
