She sighed as she though of spending another night with Spot, but slowly she walked into the Lodging House.
"Where were you? Its midnight! I was so worried!" Spot said, taking Scarlet into his arms and holding her protectively while his eyes scanned the people in the room, seeing if they were convinced he loved her.
She tried to shove away lightly. "I'm fine, I'm fine, I just went for a walk," She explained calmly, "we need to talk."
He looked at her strangely as she led him up the wooden stairs and into the empty bunkroom.
He kissed her and she looked at the floor.
"What's wrong?" He said, lifting her chin to make her gaze into him ocean blue eyes.
"I-I saw you, with Cleo."
"Ooh…"
"Yea…" She said, as there was an awkward silence.
"W-well, I mean, I love you, it was nothin…" His voice shook a little as he tried to defend himself.
"Spot, if you love me you have to let me know, and if you don't, then let me go because it's not fair to me."
"I jist, its jist ya weren't there, and I jist wanted…and I didn't wanna but…"
She raised her hand to his face and shook her head, avoiding eye contact. He dropped his hands and kept staring into her.
He slowly turned around knowing that if he loved her, he wouldn't let her go. But he stood in defeat where he was, as if rooted to the ground. Slightly turning her head she looked back to him, but when he broke the gaze she gave up on him.
*~*6 months Later*~*
Tears danced down her cheeks and onto the flowers she had been holding.
"I loved you." She said to the grave, while kneeling down. Her fingers drifted across his name encrusted into the grave: Spot Gabriel Conlon. She tore them away as she felt a cold shiver go down her spine.
She set the flowers down and slowly stood up after lightly kissing her hand and placing it onto the grave. She walked a few steps away when she heard a familiar whisper.
"I love you too."
"S-Spot?" She said unsurely, turning her head with a hopeful twinkle in her eyes. When she looked back at the grave and everything was the same. Turning her back on him for the last time, she walked away once more.
