What I think Lucy's foreshadowed role is in the S Class Trial of the manga.

But we're holding on
Just like there's nothing wrong
Oh even if we look so strong
We're all about to fall

-About to Fall by The Wrecking

Natsu shouldn't cry.

That was the only thought going over and over in Lucy's head as she lay there immobile on the ground. She had taken an attack for Cana when a crying, black haired man came out of nowhere. She spotted the black wave before it hit and pushed her friend down. She didn't want Cana to die.

Now she was lying on the ground like a frozen statue, unable to move or speak but just listen to Cana's screaming sobs. And as Natsu appeared on the scene demanding what was going on, he saw her and their eyes met.

She saw him cry for the first time and honestly, she didn't like it. Not when it was because of her.

Gray had cried and it fit the moment since he was mourning his teacher. Erza cried because she had to resign herself to killing an old friend, but Natsu? No. Crying didn't fit him at all in her mind. He always knew with all his heart what he wanted to do, how to do it and gave it everything he had to achieve it. He was the epitome of confidence and success, not giving up and sadness although she was sure he was sad at times.

As he stood there frozen, staring down at her with horror and pain etched on his face, she wanted this attack to not take her life away and reassure him that it didn't hurt, that she was not going anywhere. That she could take it back. Be like him and simply brush it off. She couldn't even bring herself to smile in regret, although that would probably just make him hurt more.

As the tears welled up in his eyes while he tried to scream all his pained feelings, she could feel it all slipping away and the only thing she could still think of above all else was…

Natsu shouldn't cr-

End.

Aww come on, we all know she doesn't die!
