Annabeth was walking in San Francisco. She was home but not home. It was her third week looking for Percy. And she decided to try the west coast.
So far nothing.
But if Jason was right he was at another camp and didn't know anything. but that was not going to stop her.
She was walking down the sidewalk when she saw him. Then she had to remind herself that this was the fifth time she'd "found him".
When he got closer she could tell without a doubt.
"Oh my gods Percy, I finally found you." she breathed.
Forgetting everything, she ran across the street to him.
"Percy! We've been looking all over for you I've missed you so much!"
He stepped back, out of her hug.
"I don't know you."
"Yes, you do." she insisted, still not remembering what Jason had said. "I'm Annabeth Chase. Your girlfriend."
He continued to back away. "You aren't Annabeth."
"No." she muttered. "This can't be happening, no."
He turned and ran.
And left her standing crying on the sidewalk.
She cried for Percy.
She cried for what they had.
She cried for what they had lost.
She cried for lost hope.
"I guess that's it then. I'm headed back to Half-Blood Hill," then she whispered. "That doesn't mean I'm giving up on you."
