Anything but ordinary

I could watch her for hours.

That long golden hair… That adorable little nose… Those beautiful crazy eyes… Don't even get me started about her personality.

She was truly extraordinary.

I can barely remember not liking her. Even though it really wasn't that long ago. Was it really just three years? Weird… Just like her. That's just what I've grown to love about her, of course. There really wasn't anyone else like her.

I can vividly remember the first time when I fully appreciated that.

I was in my Seventh year. It was winter. I have always loved the winter. I was studying outside, because everywhere in the castle was so crowded. A gust blew some of the papers I had put beside me away. When I went to retrieve them, I saw a small blonde figure just beyond the edge of the forest. She was dancing. I watched her for a while. She reminded me of the elves you see in Muggle books. I decided to go over to her.

"Hey Luna."

She twirled around to see who had spoken to her. "Oh, hi Hermione."

"Why aren't you inside?" Actually I wanted to ask why she was dancing alone outside.

She shrugged. "I love the snow." Just as she said it, a tiny snowflake landed on my nose. "I've always loved playing in it." Her eyes widened and she asked "Do you want to have a snowball fight with me?"

"Actually I was--. Sure," I smiled. I was nearly done studying anyway and I'd hate to leave her all alone. She smiled back. Next thing I knew a snowball flew at my shoulder. I quickly retaliated.

I don't know how long we kept going. It's all a blur of snow and laughter. By the time we went back inside, it was snowing and we were soaked.

"Well, see you around…"

"Bye. Make sure you haven't got any Nargles stuck in your hair!" As she skipped away she combed through her own with her fingers.

That memory always ceases to make me smile. After that day I could barely stop thinking about her. I was intrigued by her. That was all, I convinced myself.

We kept unexpectedly meeting each other like that. I found myself looking forward to those random meetings.

One of those times, she had said "I know you like me." Of course I protested, not unlike Ron when it was implied that he liked me back in the day. She smiled. "It's okay. I like you too." Then she kissed me. I was too shocked to do anything. Even more when I realized how much I liked it.

After that day I was addicted. I didn't want to admit it to myself at first, but every time I saw her… I couldn't stay in denial very long. That must've been the only time my determination failed. Ever.

I'm so glad that it did.

I love her more than anything in the world.

Funny how things can turn out. If you told me three years ago that I'd end up with Loony Lovegood, I would've choked in my own laughter. Ron and Harry nearly did when I came out. Ginny was more sensitive about it, just surprised. But they all got used to it quick enough.

Unfortunately not everyone was so accepting. But we got over it. Actually, I got over it. Luna had never cared for such people.

We've been living together for little over six months now. She has taken over the Quibbler and I teach Arithmancy at Hogwarts. We have absolutely no plans to get married. Neither of us believe in it. Besides, we're perfectly happy living like this.

Love is everything it's cracked up to be… It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for.

Author's Notes: Somewhat inspired by Evanna's brilliant performance. She is so adorable. Maybe I'll write an expanded fic about this story... Feel free to review.
