I have a lot to say about this fic, actually. It's actually a songfic--sort of. It was certainly inspired by the song I had on repeat while I was writing, but no references except the title. The song is Dear Angel, by April Sixth. The title comes from the chorus. So there was the inspiration. This is not the Naruto fanfic promised on my profile, don't worry. This is just a drabble I wrote really quickly. Another SasuNaruSaku, and fairly angsty and...well, I'm not quite sure. Uh...misty, I guess. You'll see what I mean.

He watched them sleeping, a gentle smile on his face. The black strands of hair blew into his eyes from the breeze coming in the window, and the sleeping bodies shivered and eyelids fluttered. He quickly exited and shut the window behind him, landing gracefully on the lawn. He looked up at the window longingly, his eyes full of want and pain. It was another betrayal, and he was more than aware he would not get a third chance.

Naruto, he thought, Sakura. The two sleeping people in the room didn't wake up, didn't know that one was missing. This time, he thought, I won't come back. This time I can't. His thoughts turned toward his enemy, and the journey ahead. He could not give up the search, the vengeance, no matter how hard he tried to settle down. Not even after the two people he loved had shown him what it was to have a family. He was rotten inside, consumed by a festering need for revenge not even they could touch and heal. He could not continue to taint them.

I love you, he thought gently, staring up at the window he had come out of. As if in response, he was held back by two pairs of arms, two loving gazes and whispered confessions of love. No, he thought, they aren't really here, and he watched the two figures fade, looking imploringly at him. No.

He turned and walked away.
