He had a daughter. He had a baby girl, his own baby girl. Shermie let tears appear in his eyes as he cradled the 77-minute-old newborn in his arms. Both Shermie and his wife, Stacey had gone with the name that they picked back when they found out that they were having a girl, Suzanna Stanford Filbrick Pines.
Shermie brought his daughter's head close to his lips and placed a kiss on Sue's forehead. Sue whimpered causing her father to pull her back thinking that he hurt his baby girl. Sue got one of her hands free from her blanket and moved it around until she found something to grab. Shermie's smile grew bigger and as he watched his daughter hold his finger in her grasp.
Then, Shermie noticed something, Sue didn't have five fingers, she had six. Shermie looked over at his wife and saw that Stacey was awake.
"We don't have the money to have the fingers removed." Stacey said, her voice showing that she was still tired from delivering their child.
"It's ok, I don't want to." Shermie said.
Stacey smiled and watched her husband walk over and gave her Sue. Stacey held her daughter close and felt Shermie kiss her forehead. We'll be fine, we'll be fine. Stacey thought as she closed her eyes.
