"Lav," Parvati's voice still rang in Lavender's mind from the day Harry had asked Parvati to go to the Yule Ball, "it's not like we can just go to the Yule Ball together as a couple."
"But I didn't expect you to go with a boy," Lavender had cried exasperatedly. "I thought we'd go by ourselves and then meet up later." She knew hadn't need to say what she wanted to do with Parvati when they met up. Both girls knew perfectly well how they felt about each other. It was just the fact that Parvati's parents wouldn't be able to accept the fact that their daughter was dating another girl that was keeping them at bay.
"We can still meet up later," Parvati had tried to placate her which ended up annoying Lavender more than anything. "You're being foolish about this, Lav. Harry doesn't mean to me what you do."
"Then why except his invitation to the Yule Ball?"
"Because I can't go with the one person I really want to and he asked. We're only going as friends, Lav." Parvati had sighed as she watched Lavender deflate a little.
"I don't have to like this," Lavender told Parvati sitting down on Parvati's bed and patting the space next to her. "But as long as we can meet up later I guess I don't mind."
Parvati nodded. "Can I at least get a smile before I have to pretend to be happy with Harry?" she asked sitting next to Lavender and putting her arms around her girlfriend's waist pushing her backwards towards the bed.
"I don't know," Lavender sighed as she tried to fight off Parvati's kiss and sit back up.
"You know you love me," Parvati told Lavender kissing the other girl with as much passion as she could muster. That is until the doorknob to the girls dormitory had started to turn. Moving away from the disappointed Lavender Parvati went to get ready for the Yule Ball.
The memory of Parvati leaving to change for the dance still fresh in her mind as Lavender sat dejectedly watching as several different couple danced in front of her. She wished she could be among them. She and Parvati. Dancing the way they should be if Parvati if only Parvati would tell everyone else about them. She was so deep in thought she didn't notice that someone was standing in front of her until she felt the gentle touch of a hand on her shoulder.
"Lavender," Parvati's voice floated down to her, "do you want to dance?"
Looking up at the young Indian girl's fiercely blushing face Lavender nodded excitedly. "But aren't you afraid someone will tell your parents about us?" she asked as she took Parvati's hand and allowed herself to be lead onto the dance floor as a slow song started to play.
As they began to dance Parvati physically relaxed into Lavender's arms. This was were she belonged. With her gorgeous girlfriend Lavender and she didn't care who saw them together. "You know you love me," she whispered against Lavender's ear feeling Lavender relax as well.
"You know you love me too," Lavender told her as they lost themselves in the music and dancing of the night.
I hope you all enjoyed Save the Last Dance.
