Did Serenity feel humbled as she gazed upon her daughter?
Think, "This is she, the girl to take once more the name Selene"?
Did she ever stumble, falter; lost, alone, confused?
It takes great strength to raise a child, even when the mother's Queen.
Did she regain composure, as she gazed upon her daughter,
Safe again in eyes blue as moon's gentle, anchor world;
And did she calm her breathing, with her Princess gently sleeping,
By singing with a weakness that her subjects never heard?
Serenity, sweet angel
My precious, holy light
All are blessed to know you
And be near you, sweet and bright
You steel your silly mother,
When she crumples up and cries;
Please stay my brightest, holy star
'Til the last of this long life.
Did Serenity feel anxious as she watched her daughter blossom,
Enamored as she was with all the dangers of the Earth?
Was she firm in her objections, knowing well the looming battles,
Or hesitant, not willing to let her daughter be so hurt?
Was she lonely, under starlight, as she watched her leave the castle,
To meet the rival power's Prince, and still pretended not to know?
Did she tell herself the future would be better for her kingdom,
With what she sang, alone save one, what seemed so many years ago?
Serenity, sweet angel
My precious, holy light
I can't choose your actions for you
Though at times I want to try
Never heeding words from mother,
Purest love has made you blind;
But you're the brightest, holy star
That gives me hope in troubled times
Did Serenity feel a failure as she bore witness to destruction,
Her kingdom laying ruined from a burst of senseless war?
Had she been expecting an inevitable battle,
Or lying under breath 'til she could delude herself no more?
As she exhausted all her power, did she do it for her nation?
Or simply for her daughter? Did she hesitate at all?
With the night sky growing dimmer, watching her star floating away,
Did she whisper calming memories, as best she could recall?
Serenity, sweet angel
My precious, holy light
My weakness has undone you
Where I lacked the strength to fight
But you're stronger than your mother
As she bids her last goodbye
Please be the brightest, holy star
Of every soul in your new life.
