It was on a Greyhound bus shuttling between Portland and Gravity Falls, Oregon. a young Hispanic woman, barely 25, was finding a seat. She was 9 months pregnant and five weeks past her due date.
Maria Juana Ramirez Vasquez wasn't expecting the pregnancy, for she had problems ovulating and her partner, Remington, had a low sperm count. Coupled with their love-making positions in bed, which were optimal for pleasure, but not conducive for conception, this was the perfect storm for the young unmarried couple. When their families found out, they were rushed into marriage, a role Remington wasn't prepared for.
On this day, Juana was on her way to the maternity hospital. Her water could break at any moment and she wanted to be in an appropriate medical facility when it happened. Nevertheless, she went to the back of the bus, her stomach bulging, and she was noticeably tired. "I've got such a craving for anchovies, and peanut butter! Oh, uh-" She saw a young man seated on the outside of a seat for two. She got the guy's attention and gestured to a sign next to the seat with a picture of a pregnant woman on it. "Hurry up, please. I'm sitting for two." She motioned for him to move inside.
But before she could sit, her water broke and a 12-pound baby boy fell out legs first on the floor. He was strangely unhurt. He strangely dusted himself off and walked away.
"They grow up so fast." she said.
