Author's note: So, the idea for this silly little one-shot appeared when, at the end of Act 2, I had to kill all the Arishok's men because Isabela wasn't a friend/rival enough to come back. During the fight, Hawke got knocked out fairly quickly and Varric was the one who finished the battle. So I was kind of pissed when they still named Hawke Champion.
This can be seen as a continuation of my other OS "Le Garde des Ombres en assez de votre merde, Anders" but, it's completely unnecessary to read to understand this one. You just need to know that the Warden came to Kirkwall to take Anders back in Act 1 and that Bethany and Carver are both alive.
disclaimer: Dragon age ? Not mine. Sadly.
"I think saving this city earned you the title of Champion." said one of the cheering noble.
"Exactly. But we can't decide whic one of you will it be. Which one of you two do you think disserve it more ?" added another.
Immediatly, Garret's mind started to imagine the possibilities of such a title.
For one, the power. Even if he wasn't too fond of leading, he had to admit that being sort of the ultimate authority in the Free Marches (or at least, in Kirkwall) would be nice.
There was also, the matter of the immunity that would grant him. He wouldn't have to protect bethany anymore from the Circle, since it was her magic that helped them defeat the Qunaris.
Plus, he would be considered the equal of a king and that would be quite nice.
On the other hand, people would expect him to run the position of Viscount and he couldn't, nor would ever want to, administrate a city.
The Deep Roads' treasure and his status as an Amell (well, the son of an Amell) already protected him from the Templars.
And there would be so much responsabilities, expectations...
Varric's mind apparently made the same conclusion as his because both men said, at the same time:
"Not it!"
"Come on Garret. Don't tell me you don't want to be the Champion." said Varric while the whole room looked at them as if they were crazies.
"But I don't think I desserve it. I mean, you were the one that made the killing blow on the Arishok." countered the eldest Hawke
"Only because you weakened him enough for me to kill him. Plus, you killed a great deal of his minions, without that, I wouldn't have been able to do anything."
"Maybe. But you were born and spent all you life in Kirkwall. I'm just some refugee who's here only because of the Blight. Plus you're already accustomed to being on top of the hierarchy."
"I don't know what you think but Bartrand's the one in the family with authority. I'm just a glorified bodyguard while you already own half a mine."
"But I'm not leading any of this mine ! I'm just the one responsible for the security o the miners."
"And being a Champion is ...?"
...shit!
"You know, if none of you want the title, you don't have to be Champion. It just seemed a good "thank you for saving us all" present."
"No thanks." answered the two men.
Behind them, Carver was slowly hitting his head on a wall while Bethany was trying to stop him.
"I can't believe it. Actually I can, that's worse. Brother just refused the title of Champion and I'm not even surprised. I don't know if I should worry for my sanity or his."
"You know, if it appale you that much, you can always says you want the title." said his twin
"I'm not the one they proposed it to, sister."
"But you were still there and helped."
"I'm sure they would still find a way to make brother the one who deserve it anyway."
"Now you're just being difficult."
So ? How was it ? What do you think ? Where are my spellings errors ?
