Somewhat Impeccable Timing
"It's such a pity none of you want to give School Challenge a shot...it would be so much fun. I only mention it because the final takes place right here. .."
There are moments in one's life when you think you have control - that you are the one in charge of the plan. All of it. Those occasions - perhaps few and far between that they might be - are experienced by everyone.
Kelly Jones had thought that the plan to liberate (if only for a few days) the 'Girl With a Pearl Earring' had been one of those sorts of moments - a plan which only she knew the full extent of during these early stages. When she had got on the school bus that morning, the only person who knew everything about the plan was herself. Polly - her number two in this - was only aware of half of it (mostly the parts of her own devising), and Chelsea, a vital link in this foray into the beginnings of a phenomenal heist, was only vaguely aware of the driving forces and plans in which she would partake.
It was a well known fact of criminal enterprises - plausible deniabiltiy .As long as nobody knew everything, they couldn't give everything up if caught. Of course, most of the girls knew this well - their own adventures into the black markets and criminal quarters of the world only known to themselves and Kelly. They knew they would never know exactly what would go down in this particular plan. And they were content with this fact.
As a student of St Trinian's, where dodgy deals, illegal substances and straight out criminal ventures have their home, this mind set - that of 'only one knows all' – comes in handy every so often.
However, like just now, there were moments where someone could almost wager that the 'one knows all' plan had gone awry.
Like now, when Kelly could swear that somehow, Miss Dickinson knew. Everything. The whole plan.
The facial expression of quiet superiority, the casually thrown out remark about 'School Challenge'; it was a little too perfectly timed. When things drop into your lap, Kelly had learnt, look for the string attached. Nothing, but nothing, is a Godsend in this life. Everything comes with strings, whether you know about them or not.
Of course, in the next moment, Miss Dickinson's face had reverted to normal, the tone dropped from her voice and it was as if it never happened.
Just someone else to keep an eye on.
Joy.
And now I shall retreat back to my little room of pizza, water and the film to write the rest of the fics the plotbunnies have grown in my absence.
Have a fabulous day,
SSS~
