A cool wind blew through the city. Even at midnight, the lights were still on and the city was still alive, giving the streets an unnatural -- and yet still appealing -- glow. But on this night, the lighting of the city no longer held its usual appeal for a certain young mutant. He sat upon the ledge of the roof of a very, very tall building, overlooking the cars and the people down below.

From up that high, everything looked so...small. If Kevin so chose, he could rain fire down on them from up here, but he didn't. If he so chose, he could make his way down there in but a few seconds and then suddenly change to a super-strong creature and hold up a bank. Or, hell, he could skip the money entirely and just make a quick trip through the grocery store for some food.

But something kept him from committing the crimes he wanted to.

A particular brown-haired, green-eyed, ten year old hero.

"Ben," Kevin spat, pure irritation apparent in his voice. The wind changed and blew his black hair across his brown eyes, and he angrily smoothed it away. He looked away from the city below, back to the gray, barren rooftop. Somehow, Ben had an... effect, on Kevin, and now he couldn't get the boy out of his mind. Little things the brunet said that had, at the time, no influence on him -- now made him want to hit something.

Or maim something.

It wasn't like he really cared about Ben. But he was just so naive, to believe what he did...the world was corrupt, and only those with power would (or even could) succeed. Why couldn't he see that? Why did he... "Dammit!" Kevin snarled and smashed his curled fist into the concrete ledge, splitting the skin on his knuckles. He didn't feel it, though, he was just so angry.

With a grunt, he threw his legs over the side of the ledge and stood up on the rooftop, pacing a few steps and crossing his arms. No, no, this wasn't right. He wasn't supposed to get riled up over what some baby hero-boy had said. Hell, he was supposed to be against Ben! Kevin was the bad guy. He'd settled into this position quite happily. They were natural enemies, after all.

But Kevin didn't really like that option. He didn't want to oppose Ben -- for a while there, it looked like they could have been...friends. Kevin once again cursed, but this time it was under his breath. No. He didn't have any use for friends, he had himself. And that was all he needed.

Still, though, that didn't stop the second wave of rage from flowing through Kevin. Ben was so innocent, so... so trusting! It almost felt like a wasted opportunity.

Kevin whirled around, and walked up to the ledge that came up to his waist. He leaned forward, gripping the edge of it, his hands shaking with fury. He muttered, "dammit, Ben...," before taking in a deep breath. And then, he shouted as loudly as he could.

"You better run, Tennyson! I'm gonna kill you! You hear that?! I'm gonna fuckin' bury you!"

A/N: My first Ben 10 fiction...! This is placed shortly after the first episode Kevin appears in, and I...actually haven't seen much more than that. But I needed to write this! So, please, alert me if I got something wrong...in a review, please~?
