Locked Up Hearts

When love had only brought pain to them in the end, the nations decide to lock their hearts up and throw away the key. But love always has a way of squeezing in and breaking down all defenses, no matter how strong those defenses are.

They're ethereal beings; they see the world differently than we do. To try and completely understand what they've gone through is impossible, there's far too much to learn for one life. Our life span compared to theirs is like comparing the earth to the universe, there's a world of difference. Nothing we do can fill in that gap of difference.

To fall in love with one of them and have them reciprocate those feelings would be bliss at first, only to have the harsh reality slap you in face later on. No human can live as long as a nation can. Most of the time they die of natural causes, occasionally it's because another takes their life by force. That's why those that are nations tend to keep to themselves, to never experience the misery of losing one they so dearly love.

But mistakes happen. Each nation has slipped up at least once and opened their hearts for another, only for those hearts to shatter into a million pieces when those they love pass away.

It's with these experiences that most nations decided to keep their hearts locked up, never to feel so much affection for another individual. They do this to keep themselves from getting hurt that way again.

Though, those decisions never really applied to the younger nations. And sometimes even those that have their hearts frozen in ice will see the sun and have their hearts freed.

A/N: I have no idea what I just wrote . . . Anyway, I wanted to write a short story and post it to reassure everyone that the brony and I aren't dead. School and computer issues have gotten us behind schedule. But do not fear, the next chapter has been written and is in the editing process and the chapter after that is in the process of being written.
