Youth is Forever Lost

Ancient relics from ages past,
iconic statues of peace.
The sun is dark; the moon is gone.
Innocence is doomed to cease.

Wind no longer sings its hymns;
man has fouled her breath with strife.
She only speaks of rotting flesh;
what is left but death of life?

Monsters march to bloody drumbeats.
Cities, youth, all doomed to fall.
Young men die in fated battles;
who will answer dying calls?

The years drag on and warfare dies,
but what is left of Before?
Earth is devoid of joyous cries;
there is nothing now to live for.

Will youth's innocence now echo
like a drifting, lurid ghost?
Forever lost, forever dead
by unholy, bloody oaths.
