A/N: This is the first fiction I've written since my last high school English class which was nearly 18 years ago. The idea came to me after finishing Stardust by Neil Gaiman and I had to get it down so I'm putting it out there.

He didn't mean for it to happen, it just did. He's not sure when. Maybe it was that fundraiser or maybe the monster trucks. More likely it just always was. He can't deny the truth to himself anymore.
His heart is hers. He's done everything to push her away in the hopes that he can protect both of them. It's worked for her, she moved on. It didn't work so well for himself. He might find temporary relief from his symptoms from time to time, but the underlying condition remains. She can't know. He can deal with this pain, but he can't handle the possibility of her crushing him. It almost happened once and he knows he won't recover again. Maybe her happiness is enough.
