Tales of a United Kingdom
1. The Moment of Fate
Wales exited the ruddy and shouting mess he called home, they were going at it again, of course there was a chance this would be the final time they do that in the comforts of a shared home, 'A Family of Nations eh?' Wales thought, silently cursing the buggery bastard who thought of that phrase. He pulled a cigarette from his pocket, lighting it, he inhaled burned tobacco in the air, a relaxing break from the dysfunctional Family of Nations that he had the luck to be part of.
"Why are you so sad?" Ewyn, his Dragon asked, sitting beside Wales. "Sad? I'm never sad Ewyn you should know that by now" Wales denied, every word he said was a lie and Ewyn knew it, he knew the lanky boy since he was a but a wee child.
"You know what your mother said to me, the day she left to fight of Rome?" He asked the boy, who perked up at the mention of his wayward mother, "She said 'Look after this boy Ewyn, because if you don't, he'll be a better liar and as crooked as a politician'" Ewyn imitated the sound of Britannia's voice, a beautiful sing-song voice he has not heard for a very, very long time. Sparking the hint of laughter in Wales.
"It's true!" The ancient dragon said, mock indignant, "Now why the long face my boy?" Wales sighed, throwing away the cigarette stub, pinching the bridge of his nose. "They're at it again"
"Who's them?"
"Arthur and Alan, sometimes I wonder how we became a union"
"Aeron, in my time many a union has been torn asunder by questions like that, and this was a union that once ruled the waves" He lectured in his paternal voice, somewhere in the depths of his mind Wales knew that if Dragons had fingers, Ewyn would be wagging his hand at him right now.
"The British Empire? That was an Empire long gone, but even then they constantly bicker, but this one Ewyn, I think this time they might break apart"
"I'm sure it's not that bad… Why don't you tell me a story to pass the time, I'm sure it will blow over" Ewyn reassured him, Wales sighed, he was reluctant Ewyn could tell that much, too many memories, thousands of years of history couldn't be told in a blink of an eye, 'oh well'
A/N: So Tales of a United Kingdom basically aims to tell the story of the Family of Nations making up Wales, Scotland, and England as they went from wee lads trying to survive in the ages of old, to the days of the British Empire, to the days where the Union became threatened by Separation. (This was written after the Independence Referendum)
