Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.
Author's Note: I decided to try another new one-shot idea. Enjoy!
Knitting
For the past three nights, Hinata Uzumaki spent a couple of hours knitting different things. Booties, squares for quilts, little things to be stuffed with cotton to later become toys, stuff of that sort.
The usual things that women would make for babies. Yep, Hinata just found out three days ago that she was pregnant, and ever since she found out, she spent nights knitting different things for the child, with much help from her friends that gave her patterns.
And sadly, since Naruto came back from his mission yesterday morning, he had no clue. Yes, Hinata could just right out and tell him, but she thought it would be fun and more exciting for him to figure out through the items she was creating.
First was the booties. Two pairs of green and a pair in white, perfectly neutral for a boy or girl. She showed them to Naruto, "What do you think of these, Naruto-kun?"
"Aren't they a little too small, Hinata-chan? Those will barely keep my toes warm."
Hinata sighed, giving up on that try.
The next night, she showed him the first six sown-together squares for the baby quilt. It was alternating colors with white, using different shades of blue and will eventually feature squares of green and violet shades. "What do you think of this, Naruto-kun?" she asked him. He only looked at it and scratched his head.
"That's a very strange scarf, Hinata-chan. I thought it was all supposed to be one piece and longer than that."
She sighed again, giving up on the second try.
The following night, she showed him the doll base she knitted, just waiting for the other parts to come together. It was perfect for a little girl, and she already had plans for making a boy-like plush toy soon. "Won't this be a cute doll when it's finished, Naruto-kun?" she asked, holding up the pieces for her husband to see.
"I didn't know you still liked dolls, Hinata-chan! If I knew that, I would've bought you one instead of ramen."
Hinata sighed again, a little louder than usual, and gave up again.
The fourth night, she showed him the quilt again, although much bigger this time, hoping that it wouldn't be mistaken for a scarf.
"That's too big for a scarf! It looks like it could be two or three now!"
Try four: failure.
On the fifth night, she showed him the completed plush toy, a flat and pillow-like baby blue dolphin. Naruto looked at it and smiled, "It's a small pillow, but it's really cute."
Hinata sighed and completely gave up. "Naruto-kun...you are beyond dense," she muttered, dropping the plush onto the chair with her other knitted objects and went off to the kitchen. He stared at her confused, not knowing why his wife was irritated.
"Hinata-chan, what is it? Did I do something wrong?"
"No...you're just dense."
"Well, I don't know what's going on."
Hinata pointed towards the chair, "Look at the stuff I was making. I was making those things for our baby. Yes, I'm pregnant with our first child, and I just found out a few days ago while you were on a mission. And I wanted to surprise you by having you guess from the items, but you just didn't get it."
He looked over at the chair and smiled, "Oh, I already knew that you were pregnant." She stared at him with surprise.
"I just wanted you to tell me. See, I'm not as dense as you think!"
Naruto flashed her one of his special and foxy smiles, and Hinata sighed through curved lips, "Silly Naruto-kun."
