As Dustin laid on the ground, his eyes firmly shut as he tried to ignore the pain, he wondered what had made him do something so stupid like that.
Had it been the fact that he thought he could do it? Had it been the fact that he hadn't seen it? Or had it simply been the anger that made him not think or see straight?
Probably the latter, he thought as he felt his own body laying broken on the hard ground. He couldn't move, couldn't breathe. And as life slowly left him, he heard voices. Screaming voices that just grew in intensity.
And then he heard a voice. A familiar voice whispering in his ear. I'm sorry the voice said.
Sorry? Dustin thought. Sorry for what?
But he didn't have time to wonder as he felt his body give up the fight to stay alive, and he closed his eyes for the last time.
Dustin sat straight up in the bed. He was breathing hard, and his body was sweat soaked. He sighed deeply to calm his racing heart.
Not that dream again, he thought irritated. Except it wasn't a dream. Not exactly a dream anyway.
It had happened. He had run straight out in the street, not being carefull enough to look around. And then a car had hit him.
As he looked around, he saw a familiar blonde sitting in a chair, leaned back and sleeping. Dustin smiled a little and sighed, laying back in the hospital bed.
He had been running of plain anger, with the same blonde that now sat by the bed chasing after him, trying to apologize.
But Dustin hadn't listened. He had just been so angry. And then the pain came as the car hit him, and he got thrown through the air and hit the hard ground. It was then the screaming voices had been heard.
And then the same blonde had kneeled down by him, and whispered those two words in his ear. I'm sorry. And then Dustin had drifted of into darkness, sure that he was going to die.
And when he had awakened a week later, the same blonde had been sitting by his bed, waiting anxiously for him to wake up. And when he had, the blonde had immediately said those two words again. Followed by three other words.
I love you. Dustin had been shocked, suprised, angry and happy at the same time then. And then he had smiled, taken the blonde's hand and given it a gentle squeeze. I love you too, he had whispered. And since then, the blonde hadn't left him.
The person by him stirred. As Dustin turned his head, he looked straight up in a couple of blue eyes. He smiled, and let four words escape his mouth. «I love you Hunter.»
