Disclaimer: I don't own Dark Angel. But, I really really love it. That should count for something. Right?

A/N: Sucky title but I couldn't think of anything else. Enjoy!

I'll Die Before You Do

"I hate to be a kill-joy but no one's going anywhere." He was desperate. Could he do this? He pulled out the tazer. The one White had given him. The dreaded thing stared him in the face. Taunting him. He shocked her. Watching as she fell to the ground. His heart broke seeing her so defenseless.

He nearly escaped the attack from Joshua. Her loyal dog boy. It might be better if Joshua did stop him. Max would never forgive him. Ever. She would hate him forever and he would never be able to live with himself.

He tazered Joshua but it wasn't enough. Joshua faced him growling. A predatory instinct taking over. He would protect the ones he cared about. He would protect Max. Alec knew that.

He attacked again but Alec got the upper hand. He tazered Joshua until he fell to the ground. Withering in pain as the electric current forced its way through him forcing his body to surrender. He flipped Joshua over. Pushing the hair away from his neck in a frantic rush.

"Where is it?" He started to panic. He had less than an hour left. He felt eyes get wide.

"Where the hell is your barcode?" He growled desperation laced in his voice. He turned. Turned his own kind. It was despicable.

"No barcode." He heaved. "I was first. Special." He lifted his face. Alec cold feel the heavy pants coming from the dog man.

He zapped him until he was incapacitated. Rage taking over his actions. He turned His eyes fell on her. Max.

He walked over to her. Her body twitching on the ground. He threw the tazer. Knowing that he couldn't use it on Max. Couldn't use it. Seeing the betrayal in her eyes.

"I'm sorry. There's no other way." He pulled out the knife.

His hand shook as he watched her look at the knife in his hand. She was terrified. Laying helpless on the ground. He had become her monster. The ones that chased people in their dreams.

"Alec." she said. Using all her strength to plead his name. Her voice was raspy but it was as clear as day to him. His heart cracked. His resolve crumbling. One word and he would give his life for her. He wanted to hear her say his name. But not in a desperate plea for her life.

"I don't want to die." He didn't but he couldn't kill her. Could he?

He crouched down. Her breathing accelerated as the knife hovered over her body.

He raised it and brought it down. She cried out as he plunged the knife into the ground by her head.

The shook all over his energy drained. He collapsed in a heap on the ground. His decision made. His life resting in her hands.

He was going to die because saved her.
