Who was he?
Before he would have said Richard "Dick" Grayson, circus extraordinaire. Youngest person to perform on a trapezes, and one of the three in the world to perform a quadruple flip - the other two being his parents. But then a mob boss took them away from him- he murdered them. Forced him to leave his circus family. Turned him from a child with loving parents, to an orphan with no other person in the world to care for him.
But then, famous billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne adopted him, and he was Richard Grayson-Wayne. But also know as charity case, circus freak, filthy-worthless little circus boy that should not have been adopted by THE Bruce Wayne. He was bullied at school; he had no friends. At the galas he was suppose to be some perfect snotty rich kid- act like someone, SOMETHING that he clearly wasn't.
And then he had found out that Bruce was Batman, and he became Robin the Boy Wonder. Also know as Bird Boy, Birdy, or Boy Blunder. Boy Blunder seemed to be a favorite. He was the partner to Batman; he had his back in all situations, even when the Dark Knight promptly said no to most. He was cocky and a little arrogant- but only to take the attention from Batman so that he could get the bad guy. Sure it resulted in a lot of injuries that could have been avoided, but that was who he was suppose to be. Suppose to, not was.
Then there came Rob. The person he was with his team. But there to he was called Wonder Boy, Boy Wonder, and Boy Blunder-also a favorite among friends. He was a troll, ninja, and little brother to the team. He could joke around and act like a kid again with them. But that still wasn't who he was. He wasn't a kid, he just acted like it with them because they were also, so shouldn't he act like them? But he didn't want to act.
Then he had a fall-out with Batman, and he left. For a while he was no one. There was no Robin-no Richard or "Dick" Grayson. He was an Unknown. But then he remembered a tale Clark had told him. About the hero of Krypton that was disowned by his own family-only known as Nightwing. And that was when he knew. All those other people- all those other names were not him. They were just names. But this-Nightwing-was his very being. It was not just a name to him, it was him. He could be who he really was. Cool-headed, but also had a temper that could make any man run screaming. He liked to stay in the shadows, he wasn't an arrogant, cocky little kid that was just asking to get his ass kicked. He stayed in the dark, he stayed in the night just like his name. He was filled with a darkness that he embraced. He protected a city that matched him perfectly.
Before he was an Unknown, even with his names, but now he was known.
He was Nightwing.
