On an average, sunny day in the Green Hill Zone, a blue blur could be seen running through. This blue blur was none other than the world renowned hero, Sonic the Hedgehog. "Ah, what a nice day for a jog. Hey, what's that?" Sonic saw a black air board. *I remember these from the EX World Grand Prix… wonder if I still got it?* As soon as he was about to touch it, a voice rang out. "Hey Sonic, that's my new prototype. Why don't you wait until I finish it." Sonic looked up on the rooftop of Tails' house and saw a black kitsune fixing shingles from the hailstorm two nights ago. "Hey Jason, Tails home yet?" Jason put in the last shingle and leaped down from the roof, nearly failing the landing. "Not yet… Didn't he tell you he'd be gone for awhile to look for some spare parts?" Sonic was silent. "No…" Jason facepalmed and added, "Well it's a good thing he took Max with him; he knows just where to find spare parts that aren't from the scrap heap. Try to guess from where." Sonic thought for a few seconds. "Eggman's base?" "Eggman's base. By the way, can you do me a favor?" Sonic nodded. "I need you to find at least three Chaos Drives, but that might require you to destroy some G.U.N. robots. You up to it hero?" Sonic thought about what could and would possibly happen if they could catch him. *If I destroy their robots, I could end up on their wanted list again.* "What if I just ask them?" Jason shrugged. "I guess that would work… That'll be taking the boring way out though."

At Eggman's base…

Stage 1: Secret Base

Max smashed the loading screen and ripped it in half. "No, we are not doing that!" Tails flew downwards and landed next to Max. "What was that anyway?" Max growled at what remained of the loading screen. "That cursed, slow moving loading screen… how many parts do you need?" Tails looked at the bottom of the screen. "That counter says we need five parts… are we even supposed to be able to see that?" Max broke down a wall, setting of the alarm. "No… let's go before the robo-guards show up." In less than 30 minutes, the whole base was literally turned upside-down. Tails mouth was hanging open. "You didn't need to go that far…" Max gave a small grin. "Just wanted to give him a surprise."

O_O

Jason held up the finished airboard. "Finally, the Black Star is done! Come on Sonic, try it out!" As Sonic got on the board, Jason crossed his fingers and Tails his behind a solid brick wall, for just in case reasons. The board started and flew through the air, maxing out at 500 mph without boosting. "It worked, and I didn't even use a Chaos Emerald!" Tails noticed something on the other hand. "Jason, is the tail end supposed to smoke like that?" Jason quickly shouted, "Sonic, land the board quickly!" Sonic nosedived and smoothly landed on the ground. "I don't see any problems with it… Hey, is something cooking?" Without realizing it, his tail caught fire. "AHHHH!" Tails chased Sonic with a bucket of water with no luck. Jason shot Sonic with a garden hose and put out the flame while "giving him a bath". Then a piece of paper floated down from the sky and landed on the Black Star. Tails quickly picked it up before the board burst in flames. Jason facepalmed. "Well that was a waste… Hey bro, what's that?" Tails read the paper out loud. "The new EX World Grand Prix is tomorrow… The grand prize is the seven Chaos Emeralds and, in an added bonus, The Master Emerald!" Sonic's and Jason's eyes lit up as they both shouted, "As they say, let the race begin!"
