When he awoke the first thing he noticed was the water dripping down his face. It actually felt good, his burning face was relieved by the cold liquid. But he couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong, like he was being watched. He still wasn't accustomed to this new body, it felt too limited and he could feel the pain intensely.
He quickly became aware of his surroundings. The trees were lush and plenty, their leaves a gorgeous emerald. They looked nothing like his previous realm, this place was so full of life and tranquillity. The death and decay he was so familiar with was replaced with brightened colors and sounds.
Birds crooned and whistled in conversation, animals shifted through the brush and climbed the trunks of the trees that shaded him.
What did he remember?
His death, his life, those final moments.
Remembering those vivid eyes staring down at his, the color a red that he likened to his favorite wine. That smirk, the red light shading the room and the man that murdered him in absolute joy.
When did he enter into the cold desolate wasteland called Mu?
Why did he see it as his home now? Why was he scared by this new, yet nostalgic place? Full of the trees and plants he had once known the names of. His head pounded, the pain unbearable. Was this the next plane? Was this his reward for suffering so long, so very long in that solitude. In the wasteland that had become his home? Was this Heaven, Hell or was it still his home?
Why did he fear the answer? He knew there would be no answer until he got up and investigated. He couldn't quite get himself to move, a hissing sound involuntarily leaving his throat. He felt paralyzed and cold, he assumed he was in the stages of hypothermia, maybe this place could actually affect him physically.
He was brought out of his contemplating by a low groan to his side . At first he thought it was his own, but the voice was too high, he knew it was foreign.
He tried to move his head, failing miserably, the stiffness of his neck not allowing him to move.
"You're alive..?"
A/N: I promise the next chapter will be so much longer! Don't give up before I can really write!
