Sam dug the spade in to the mud again and through it into the large pile in the wheelbarrow beside her. She was just about to force the spade into the hard mud again, but she heard the back gate squeak open, she turned around expecting the gate to have open by itself because the bolt was coming off. But instead she was met with a tall man with dark blonde hair.
"Hi, I'm Tom I just moved in next door." The man said taking a few steps towards Sam while holding his hand out. Sam stepped out the mud, but forgot about the wooden frame surrounding the patch of mud and tripped. Luckily Tom was only a few steps away from her now, so swiftly took anther step and helped her up.
"Sorry, clumsy me. I'm Sam" She replied now shaking his hand.
"Nice to meet you Sam, you look loverly if you don't mind me saying" Tom said trying to flirt with her. Sam just smiled at him.
"Mummy, I found the seeds" Ben said running out the patio doors and over to Sam, she picked Ben up in her arms and kissed his forehead.
"Ben this is Tom, Tom this is Ben my son" Sam said while smiling.
"Nice to meet you" Tom said while smiling at Ben, Sam then put him down and put her hands in her pockets.
"I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were married" Tom said feeling slightly awkward.
"I'm not, anymore" Sam said sadly "Anyway, do you want to come in for a cup of tea?"
"Ummm..yeah, why not?" Tom said and followed Sam through the back door and into the kitchen, where Ben soon followed then.
Sam flicked the kettle on and got out 2 mugs and a plastic cup which she filled with orange juice from the fridge and then handed it to Ben, who was now sat at the kitchen table with Tom who was chatting to him. She then went to the cuboard and got out to teabags which she put in the 2 cups. The kettle then clicked off and poured the water into the 2 cups.
"Milk?" She asked Tom.
"Yeah, no sugar" He replied. She took the tea bags out of the cups and added the milk, before picking the mugs up and placing them on the table. She then pulled a chair out and sat down.
"So, what do you do?" Tom asked Sam after taking a sip of his tea.
"I'm a doctor at Holby City ED" Sam told him.
"Me to, I'm starting there tomorrow. It would be nice to have someone I know there" Tom said "Do you want me to give you a lift?"
"No It's fine, I have to go early to get Ben to school anyway" Sam said
"I don't mind going early, it is no trouble honestly. What time do you need to leave?"
"8:30" Sam told him.
"OK, come round then and I can drop Ben off at school and then we can go to work" Tom said trying not to sound despret. He was really starting to like Sam already.
"OK if your sure you don't mind" Sam said, giving into him.
"It's no trouble at all" Tom responded smiling at Sam.
