"I smell something yummy!" Meredith said as she walked down the stairs of the loft. She turned into the kitchen, where Rick was sitting on a stool at the bar as Kate made breakfast.
Kate was feeding Rick a forkful of eggs, he nodded his approval before she smiled and turned back to her cooking. He leaned over the counter, grabbing her arm to pull her back to him and kissed her.
"Oh, aren't you two the cutest things," Meredith said as she sat down next to her ex-husband.
They quickly broke their kiss, Kate turned back to the stove, biting her lips as Rick groaned softly in annoyance. "Good morning, Meredith," he said politely.
"You're certainly having a good morning, aren't you, kitten?" she teased, looking at the dark blue t-shirt Kate wore that fell to her knees, one of his shirts she'd put on to make breakfast before starting their day.
Rick sighed, rolling his eyes at the old nickname. He looked at Kate, wondering how long it would take for her to snap. But she was smiling politely, preparing dishes of eggs and bacon.
"Hungry, Meredith? I made plenty," she said, putting a plate down in front of Rick, who immediately starting eating.
Meredith looked as Rick's plate, scrunching up her nose. "I think I'll pass." She picked a piece of bacon from the corner of his mouth. "Ricky, you need to learn to stop being such a sloppy eater." She popped the tiny piece of meat into her mouth then stood. "I think I'll go take a shower."
She stretched her back, making the thin shirt she wore rise and expose her stomach. Rick wisely kept his eyes on Kate until Meredith went back upstairs.
"Have I told you how radiant you are this morning?" he asked once they were alone again.
Kate rolled her eyes at him. "Shut up."
"What? What did I do?"
"First she criticizes my cooking then she eats food off the corner of your mouth. It's like⦠she trying to annoy me."
"To be fair she never really criticized..." He cut himself off when she glared at him. "She's trying to annoy me. If it makes you feel any better, you're the only one I want eating food off of any part of me."
