It was passed midnight and everyone was asleep. Well, all except one. Mika laid awake, unable to sleep. Tomorrow... Well, it was more like today... Was the day of their leave. But he couldn't sleep. He had too much in his head, too many worries... And his thoughts kept him awake. "...Mika?" said a small asleep voice. Yuu's voice. Mika turned to face him, red eyes meeting green ones. He must have woken up with Mika's constant fidgeting. "What's wrong?" He looked at him, worry clearly visible on his face.
"Nothing. Go back to sleep." Mika replied in a low voice, hoping that the other would leave it be. But no such luck. It was Yuu. The other always knew when something bothered him. Yuu brought an arm around Mika's shoulders. "Don't lie to me. What's wrong? Do you need blood?" Mika shook his head. "You can't sleep?" A simple nod from Mika. "I'm been thinking... A lot... In the past few days... I mean... We're going back to the battlefield... Into a huge fight... Who knows what could happen... It's war after all..." Yuu arched an eyebrow. "This war doesn't concern us. We're no longer part of any army. We will go back to rescue Kimizuki's sister and Guren, and then we'll live on somewhere in peace. It'll be fine." It was so like Yuu. Always optimistic. But Mika was not so sure. "What if something goes wrong? What if something happens to you? If I lose you... If I lose you... I wouldn't know what to do..."
Mika was sobbing quietly and Yuu didn't know what to do. He'd never seen him like that. The Mika he always knew was someone who never let his pain show. Always strong for everyone. But Yuu could see behind this facade, he always knew how Mika truly felt. "All these years... I lived... With everyone's death haunting me... Not even knowing where you were... Or you were safe... And now that we're finally reunited... I'm afraid of losing you again... I can't... I can't lose you... Not again..." Yuu could see tears falling on Mika's cheeks. "...Mika..." he muttered. Yuu took Mika in a tight embrace, stroking his back and petting his head, the latter still crying in his arms. "I am not leaving you, I promise. All of us will survive. We will survive this. We will survive and go back to live somewhere where we can live in peace." "...Yuu-chan..." came a sobbing voice. And Mika returned the embrace, crying against the other's shoulder. "...Thank you." "For what?" Yuu asked, not fully understanding what Mika meant by that.
"...For everything... For be there for me... For caring for me... You never let me down to matter what... You do not see me as the monster that I am... You... You..." Yuu sighed and brought a hand under Mika's chin, forcing him to look into his eyes. "You're not a monster. You're Mika. My family. My best friend. You're the most important person I have in this world. And no one could replace you. I'll never leave you ever again. For as long as I am alive." "...Yuu-chan..." he smiled despite his cheeks still drenched in tears. "You're also the most important person I have in this world."
After a few minutes, Mika was having a hard time keeping his eyes open, slowly starting to drift to sleep. He leaned against Yuu's chest and closed his eyes, leaving for the world of dreams. A world way more peaceful than their reality. Far from war, far from death. A place where is was happy with his family.
Yuu lay down on the bed, falling asleep almost immediately, Mika still asleep in his arms.
