I was walking in the mall today and saw this area that screamed "husband limbo" to me. This little idea popped into my head. PG
He never thought he'd be here. He always swore these places were a myth. He'd heard the stories. He'd heard about how men would get lost here, some never to be seen again. He always thought it was a joke.
Well, he wasn't laughing now.
Tony was sitting in a cushy chair, smack dab in the middle of the mall. He was sitting in what he had always dubbed "husband limbo." This was a place he said no one would ever see him. As a single guy, he had pointed and laughed at the other guys he saw stuck here. He would walk by and taunt the suckers who'd been too weak to put their foot down, all the time making a promise to his self to never let a woman take that much control over him. He was sure such a woman didn't exist. No female ever made was enough to make Tony Almeida ditch his testosterone driven upper hand.
He had been wrong, incredibly wrong. Not only did she exist, but she was as crazy about him as he was about her. She had given up her own set of estrogen rules for him. Any sane man would have run. Tony thought he was a sane man. He thought he wanted to be a bachelor for the rest of his life. After what happened with Nina, he swore that the only thing that could make him look at another woman again would be if she had indeed fallen from heaven.
Apparently those clouds up there aren't as stable as they look.
Which is what brings him to where he is now, in the husband twilight zone. He checks his watch again. It's only been ten minutes but it feels like forever sitting here, in limbo…where time doesn't exist.
He knows he's being dramatic.
She just needed to come and pick up something. He can't tell her no. He's never been able to tell her no, even when they were friends. She once asked him what his weakness was. He seemed so strong and capable all the time, while she felt she was too emotional at times. She had said he had to have a weakness, everyone did. What was his weakness?
He hadn't answered her at the time. But the fact that he was sitting in this chair now shouted out to the world just exactly what his weakness was.
He looked up and saw her making her way out of the bath shop. She moved a little slower these days, a slight waddle to her walk. He stood and went to meet her, wrapping his arms around her as they came together. She smiles up at him and gives him a small kiss on the lips, already explaining what had taken her so long. She knows he didn't mind waiting; he just likes to hear her talk.
He drops his hands to her rounded stomach and smirks to himself.
He can't help but think she'd be happy to know she isn't his only weakness anymore.
