On the beaches of Destiny Island, there were two young boys who sat on the sand and looked and imagined what was beyond the ocean.

Warm sand felt good between their toes, as did the tropical breeze on their foreheads. They were quiet as they listened to the waves hit against the shore.

Sora dug his feet deeper in the sand.

"Riku," he said finally. "Do you know what's past there?"

"Huh?" Riku turned to Sora; the sudden noise surprised him slightly. "What do you mean?"

Sora kept his eyes out on the horizon. He didn't really seem to even pay attention to Riku.

"Do you think there's more worlds out there? More worlds other than this one?"

Riku was silent for a little bit until he responded. "Maybe."

Sora finally gave him eye contact and gave him a cheeky grin. "Maybe we can go together! We can have adventures out there together! Just you and me!" The young brunet stood up and stuck his arm out proudly. Riku had a small smile on his own face and let the younger one continue on with his fantasy. "We can fight bad guys and save those worlds from danger!"

Riku let out a chuckle. "What about saving princesses?"

Sora gave him a look, which only made Riku laugh harder.

"What? No! Th-that comes with saving the world! Wouldn't she be happy with just me saving her world?"

Riku thought about it for a moment and said, "I guess so. I mean, she'd pick me over you anyway." He shrugged nonchalantly. Sora stuck out his tongue and Riku merely rolled his eyes.

As Sora told Riku his plans, Riku hoped their friendship never changed. Things seemed different lately with the younger boy. He talked nothing but what was over the horizon. Riku himself were fine with how things were right now.

The adults around him didn't help – they talked about the tides changing. The weather was changing.

Riku didn't want things to change. He liked it how it was. He liked the weather though he wasn't sure what tides were.

"So, what do you think? We should go out and have adventures!"

"Yeah," Riku said, "but we're only little kids."

Sora pouted. "That's true I guess. Then we'll wait until we're older! I'm sure my mom wouldn't miss me all that much." He had an expression that looked thoughtful and Riku just couldn't help but smile.

He knew their friendship was different from the others and that was how it was going to be.
