In an area of Pulse lies a sacred gate, a gate that connects the world of the living to the utopia of the
spirits. This gate is called the Angel Gate. The people of Cocoon have passed down a legend: "Those who
are good will see the door of souls and it will lead them to the utopia of the fallen. Those who have
sinned shall be doomed to be disassembled by the creator and written out of existence. Those who have
sinned but truly wish to be forgiven by the goddess Etro can seek the Angel Gate, a gate that grants
anyone, no matter how much they may have sinned, to enter the haven. But be warned, you may never
come back once you have left."
Ace explorer/adventurer and ex-soldier Claire Farron, otherwise known as Lightning, seeks that gate.
Lightning sit at her kitchen table drinking coffee and reading a book she had rented from the library
called "Cocoon and Pulse Myths and Legends". Serah entered their house on New Bodhum and stopped
walking immediately after seeing what Lightning was reading. "Are you leaving again?" Serah said with a
concerned face. "Serah...I...when I was in the Guardian Corps, I did some...terrible things. There's no
telling if I'll ever be able to pass through Etro's Gate..." Lightning looked down from her book and Serah
looked at her feet. "But...you'll never be able to come back." Lightning smiled and closed her book. She
walked up to Serah and grabbed her shoulder. "But you can come and meet me there." Serah forced a
smile and wrapped her arms around Lightning. "I'll never forget you." Lightning hugged her back. "I
know." And with that, Lightning grabbed her Gunblade and left for the Sunleth Waterscape.
