The Secret Girl

A Harry Potter fanfiction

Chapter One: I Am the Secret

Everyone has secrets, right? And that includes me, I guess. I never thought that. I never thought that I had any secrets. But I knew that I, myself, was a secret.

As a child I was kept from everyone, my father rarely allowing me to go outside. When there was company over, which there barely ever was, my father sent me to my room. I didn't mind much. He always gave me things to occupy my mind with, and when the people were gone he would play with me. He was a good father, and I loved him. I still do. But I longed to go outside and play with other children my age. And so one day, I told him.

I was around the age of ten. I hurried down the winding staircase to the living room, my bare feet softly thumping on the cold wood. "Papa! Papa!" I called as I raced into his study. He looked up from the parchment he held in his hands. He smiled and put his quill down, standing up slowly.

"Yes, sweetheart?" he asked gently, coming over to me and picking me up from under the arms. He was strong for his age. I wrapped my arms around his neck and smiled widely. He walked to his large leather chair that sat in one corner of his study, setting me in his lap.

"I want to go outside," I requested boldly. I had thought about it for a long while. My eleventh birthday was coming soon, at the end of July.
Papa's smile faded slightly, the bright light in his eyes dimming. I brought my hands to my lap, thinking I had made him mad. He was sighing, and I knew he was deep in thought.

"I'm sorry, Papa. I didn't mean to upset you," I murmured. His gaze returned to me, and his smiled was brought back again. He shook his head and laughed slightly.

"You have not upset me, my dearest angel. I promise you, you will have a chance to go outside." He kissed the top of my head. "You'll be going to school this year."

I gasped and pulled back, looking up at him with wide eyes. "Is it the school you teach at?" I asked excitedly. Papa always said I would see it one day.

"Yes, it is. And we'll going out shopping for your supplies once you receive your letter. Maybe you can bring Viri, too." I squealed and clapped my hands, the thought of bringing my cat too overwhelming.

Papa kissed my head once more and picked me up again, standing. "Let's go eat dinner, and then we can play in the back garden," he told me, though I barely heard him. I was too excited. He laughed. "Calm down, Lily," he teased, though he knew I wouldn't.

Ooh! Can you guess who the girl is? And who the man is? Please review! I'm not going to set a goal for and update release, but any comments would be appreciated!

And sorry that it's really short. I just wanted to see if I should continue or not with it, if anyone likes it.
