For Just a Moment
Rose sat there next to her father, his words penetrating deeply into her mind as she sought the words to answer his question. It was like rising out of a fog, she could see the memories forming themselves, her father reading to her ever night. They were faint but she could feel the emotions that had filled her in those moments, how warm she had been, completely protected.
Still more came as she looked into her father's eyes, how proud she was of his work, of all that he did for their family. Inside she wanted to laugh at the memories of their weekend trips to the country side, oh the fun they had had! But Rose felt her voice shake as she told her dad about it, because inside she knew it wasn't real. They were flashes of what could be, if her dad had lived.
But what hope for that was there really, with those reapers clinging to the outside of the church. Rose wanted this one moment to last forever, where she could delve into the precious memories of her father, and watch him smile as he played with her. Watch as he hugged her mum, and could see nothing but love in their eyes.
It was her perfect family, what she'd always dreamed of, what she had tried to bring back, what was going to cost the entire world.
