Author's Note: I submitted this to the literary magazine at my school earlier in the year, as a poem based on The Great Gatsby. When stumbling back upon it recently, I realized it was, in all reality, a fanfiction poem. So here it goes...my first non-Harry Potter fic. Keep you eyes open, as I might try my hand at Doctor Who. There is no stated character; it is, rather, someone reflecting on Daisy. Your choice as to who that reflector is; I have my ideas but I won't steal the opportunity from you.
Disclaimer: Based on the novel The Great Gatsby, and contains quoted material at the end of the piece.
Daisy
And I envied her
/
That lovely, ignorant bliss
The ability to forget and move on
Without sweet Memory's kiss
/
And I wished I could be like her
/
Endearingly deaf and blind
Caught in a state of peaceful oblivion
A world where the stars aligned
/
And I wanted that so dearly
/
They say it is better to hear and see
To live in the world openly
But I wished I could be a fool like her
/
"That's the best thing a girl can be in this world
A beautiful little fool."
