AN: Avarìa Frammento means broken fragment. This episode was one of the saddest for me :(, but that's what made the show so amazing
Avarìa Frammento
::
I'm becoming numb, I can barely hold up my own hand
But I can still feel you here
While the world begins to fall apart
While the world begins to fall

"Were they happy?"
She can't see the blood of others on her clothes, mixing in with that of her own. She can't hear the screams from the terrified victims, even though they resound in the air with deadly force. The Little Princess can only feel The Knight's hand in hers. He squeezes her hand hard, but not too hard because she's fragile, and easily broken. Her eyes are glazing over slowly, filled with a content curiosity. There is no fear in them, only hope, because how could she know? She can no longer feel the hole blown right through her.
The only sound comes from the monitor, beeping steadily, slower and slower. The Knight can only stare. But how would the Princess know that the people outside were suffering? How would she know that the stadium, which had held dreams moments ago, was now painted red, littered with bodies?
"They loved it," he finally says.
The Little Princess wouldn't know, and no one has the heart to tell her. She smiles.

"Zero...save us"
It's become a chant amongst those in their last moments. They reach out for you, holding on as tight as they can with shaking hands. Their eyes are already glazed over, voices hoarse as blood pools up to their mouths. They're dying, all over the place even they acknowledge that these are their final moments, yet they still beg for you. The souls in the River Styx reaching out to drag you down to them.
(Fuckfuckfuck and damn it all to hell!) All those thoughts are useless, but you can't fight them back. Did C.C. ever warn you about this? Why didn't she? (You know you can't blame her, but you need someone besides yourself.)
A joke - a damned joke and now... You tear yourself away from their grips, trying to force the lump in your throat to go down, and the tears forming in your eyes to dry up. You can't show weakness because you're Zero and the world needs you.
In the back of your mind, you can hear that insufferable clapping, that insane laugh.

For the first time in years, she thinks that maybe this will be her lucky break. (It's funny, she didn't think that she'd ever use a phrase like that again.) The world has momentarily paused it self, awaiting the news with baited breath. She's not sure what to expect when Zero and Euphemia walk out finally, but she can at least smile while it's happening. She smooths green bangs out of her eyes and looks up at the sky, (was it always so blue?), and lets the ghost of a smile form on her face.
It feels like someone's stabbed through her heart, and ripped it out for good measure. Her breathing quickens, and she collapses to her knees, eyes slowly widening.
Not here...not now...
(Was it always this painful?)

A mother and her daughter stand in the crowd flooding into the stadium. No longer will they be known as Numbers, Elevens, Filth, Monkeys, or any of the other insults the Britannians hurl at them and "their kind".
"Kaa-san, are you excited?" The little girl asks happily.
Eyes shining with hope, her mother looks up towards the sky. "Today's the day."
Bonus Note: the River Styx is the river to the Underworld in Greek Mythology
